Set just moments from the harbour, beach, restaurants and shops that make La Flotte so desirable, Le Clos de la Corderie is an idyllic seaside spot, perfectly configured for two families or a group of friends.

We love houses with a heart, and Le Clos de la Corderie is both a family endeavour and a labour of love, inspired by the owner’s memories of happy childhood days on the Ile de Ré with her grandmother. There’s a delightful hint of nostalgia throughout, from the traditional wooden shutters and iron balustrades to the cosy kids’ bunk room, offset by stylish contemporary furnishings and four rather romantic double bedrooms. Some might have been tempted to rest on the laurels of the superb location and skimp on the finish, but not these owners; from the heated pool, outdoor lounge and boules alley to the TV room and helpful laundry facilities, there is everything you need here to rest and play in considerable comfort.

Unusually for such a central location, there’s ample private parking at the villa, but you could also make this a totally car-free break. All the attractions of La Flotte are a one- to five-minute walk away, and if you want to explore further then bike hire is the nicest way to get around. For an unforgettable day out on the water, the owner’s RIB is available to rent, with or without a skipper.

Strict planning laws and high demand mean that building plots around La Flotte are incredibly hard to come by, making this outstanding new villa a rare find indeed, and we are delighted that it’s available exclusively through Simpson Travel; early booking is strongly recommended.

Local area

The villa sits on a quiet side street, a minute’s walk from La Flotte harbour, the bustling heart of the village and home to a variety of shops and restaurants. Here you can find everything you need to self-cater in style, alongside enough dining options to keep things fresh for at least a week during peak season. The nearest beach, Plage de l'Arnérault, is a five-minute walk, with several other beaches within a 5 km bike ride, many offering lifeguard services in July and August, along with watersports like windsurfing, kitesurfing, paddleboarding, and bodyboarding. The island’s 110 km of bike trails make it easy to explore, whether you’re heading to the UNESCO-listed Vauban fortifications in St Martin (6 km), the well-preserved 17th-century Fort La Prée, or the salt marshes, which remain a vital part of Île de Ré’s cultural heritage. Should you choose to arrive by plane or train, La Flotte is a mere 10-minute drive from the bridge to the mainland, easily do-able by taxi.

An in-villa chef and meal delivery service is available by arrangement
