With its magnificent scenery and wide open spaces, Crete might seem an obvious place to play golf, but in fact, this superb hotel near Hersonissos sits on the only 18-hole course on the entire island.  Built to international standards, the course has been carefully constructed to maximise player enjoyment and minimise environmental impact; you’ll enjoy sea and mountain panoramas all the way around the beautifully varied 18 holes, which are designed to blend unobtrusively into the existing landscape. Behind the scenes, modern water management systems and large tracts of untouched land keep the course as green as possible in every sense, and the mountain breeze from the Lassithi plateau means the course is pleasant to play, even in the summer months. And if you do start to feel the heat, you can order cool drinks to be brought to you directly on the course, so no need to wait for the 19th hole for that ice-cold beer.

Directly overlooking the course is an elegantly contemporary hotel, heaven for keen golfers but with plenty to appeal to non-golfing partners too. Each of the 25 suites has sea and mountain views from their large balconies. You could while away hours here just enjoying the outlook, or keep up your fitness routine in the brand new gym and 25-metre outdoor pool. There are many wonderful beaches to enjoy in the Hersonissos area, and for a day of culture, nearby Heraklion is a vibrant coastal city and the museum capital of Crete. Most noteworthy is the outstanding Heraklion Archaeological Museum, regarded as the most important of its kind in Greece, and the Historical Museum of Crete, which illuminates the island’s chequered past in superb detail. If you’re keen to explore further you’re within striking distance of the stunning Mirabello gulf, presided over by fashionable Elounda and Agios Nikolaos, with timelessly pretty villages nestled into its countryside hinterland.

Hotel residents benefit from a 15% discount on the green fees, and non-players are welcome to accompany their golfing friends or partners around the course. In order to maintain a quality play environment for all, a handicap is mandatory, and the usual course etiquette rules apply. For specific information relating to the course, please contact us.

Our choice of Greek properties is as diverse as the islands themselves, ranging from simple seaside charm to genuine luxury and style. Much of our portfolio is privately owned, and price alone is therefore not a universal guide. We contract all our accommodation in person, and each property has its individual appeal. To help you make the right choice based on your own priorities, we have devised a simple grading guide to be considered in conjunction with each individual property description, awarding up to a maximum of five stars for the below categories.

As the birthplace of Zeus, Central Crete carries a certain historic and spiritual gravitas. Knossos, the Minoan Bronze Age palace, steals the show, but there are many other smaller archaeological sites, churches and towns to cast you back in time. However, with harbourside dining, beautiful beaches, mountain villages and vibrant summer festivals, the here and now also has a lot to offer. And Rethymno, which has clung on to much of its authentic beauty and charm, is a welcome addition to your island experience.
